Exclusive Single Premiere: Jack Anthony “Call My Name” (2023)

It’s hard to believe that Dharug/Western Sydney-based indie-rock artist Jack Anthony only released his debut single, “On My Own” in July this year. Today we are thrilled to have the premiere of the follow-up, “Call My Name” and it’s an absolute belter.

“Call My Name” is a rollicking slice of indie rock. The emotive lyrics are delivered with passion, with a fervent guitar line running in tandem. Exquisite guitars and energetic melodies keep this one buzzing along. The peaks are bountiful and joyful, even if there is angst in the underlying sentiment.

Jack is an artist coming to us very much as the finished product. The songwriting, musicianship and ability to create a tune that resonates is the holy trinity of creating music, and it’s fair to say that he has nailed it in this one. If you a fan of Sam Fender and/or Gang of Youths, then you are going to dig Jack Anthony.

The track was  co-written and produced by Nathan Sheehy (Birds of Tokyo, Dune Rats, The Vanns, DZ Deathrays).

About the track, Jack writes: “‘Call My Name’ is about reflecting on an old relationship where you had known the person for years prior, before having a crack at a romantic relationship. We both knew we weren’t meant for each other and were filled with conflicting feelings of wanting to stay and leave. This song has a feeling of being happy/sad and bittersweet, whilst also being anthemic. A song that you can scream in the car and cry alone to, but also dance and the song would still be fun depending on what mood you’re in.”

If you are in Sydney, you can catch Jack at the Lady Hampshire, on Friday, 6th October.

The video does a stellar job of portraying the passion of “Call My Name”. It was directed and edited by Danielo Barcelli and Sarah Leiker of Luxxe Media. It was shot in Eora/Sydney at both Carriageworks in Everleigh and Shepard St Car Park in Darlington. With a nostalgic feel to it, shot in the fading light of the day, it captures the energy and passion of the song. And, there are some sweet dance moves thrown in.
