Here’s how to make a MILKLAB Lamington Oak Milk Latte to celebrate World Coffee Day

Today marks World Coffee Day so naturally every single thing about the art is going to be picked apart, analysed, and written about online today. From coffee beans and the perfect grind, to your city’s best coffee shops and latte art.

One of the most discussed things today, however, is always going to be milk. Particularly in Australia, where the love of milk coffee is relentless, it’s always worth talking about what kind of that white frothy stuff you ask for. Skim, almond, soy, full-cream – what you ask for can make or break the entire structure of your morning pick-me-up.

One of the latest developments in the local scene has been coming from Australian milk-for-coffee brand Milklab, who earlier this year launched their latest plant-based product, Milklab Oat. Given their range already includes the likes of almond, soy, coconut, and macadamia milk, it’s big for this local brand to help round out their offering with something that’s well-connected with the increasing demand of plant-based products.

I know it’s strange to wrap your head around a new kind of milk when you’ve gotten so used to your usual coffee order, so to pick apart just how versatile this plant-based milk can be, I took the liberty of sourcing the recipe Milklab recently published in collaboration with TikTok coffee influencer Golden Brown, flipping an Australian dessert into a unique coffee that you can easily recreate at home.

Milklab Lamington Oak Milk Latte

Ingredients:

  • 350ml of MILKLAB Oat Milk
  • Chocolate Sauce
  • Raspberry Jam Sauce
  • Shredded Coconut
  • 30ml Espresso
  • Chocolate Powder

Method

1. Generously rim the top of your glass with thick chocolate sauce. On a plate, spread your shredded coconut and then dip the top of your glass, coating the chocolate in coconut.

2. Take your raspberry jam sauce and drizzle it on the inside of your glass in a circular motion so it runs down the side.

3. Place a shot of espresso in your glass.

4. Add 2 tbsp of chocolate sauce to your MILKLAB Oat Milk, and steam the milk until it reaches your preferred temperature. You can also heat your oat milk over the stove.

5. Fill up your glass with the chocolatey oat milk, and finish it off with a dusting of chocolate powder.
