Legendary Glebe cafe IKU has launched a huge plant-based meal delivery service

With the swift uptick in prepared meals on the market, from My Muscle Chef to Youfoodz, it’s never been a better time for IKU to jump onto the fast-rising trend. The chef-led, plant-based concept started off as an eatery in Glebe over 35 years ago, but has now become a full-blown home meal delivery service with various IKU plant-based meals ready-to-heat and eat for those wanting to get into more plant-based eating without sacrificing flavour.

IKU now has over 50 plant-rich dishes to choose from at their new online store, which has launched recently and has been heaving as people start peeking their heads out of lockdown and returning to the office.

The selection includes various high-protein, antioxidant-boosting, and gut health-friendly ranges, with a number of recipes taken from IKU’s most famous and well-known dishes from its cafe days.

This includes spinach & eggplant lasagna, creamy coconut laksa with pickled tofu and sprouts, fragrant mushrooms toor dal with steamed seasonal beans, basmati rice and pickled sprouts, and caramelised onion tart. There’s also a unique millet and arame marco burger for those who want some variety. Meals have been curated in collaboration with forward-thinking Bondi Chef Tom Walton, who will be responsible for culinary innovation as the new head of food for IKU.

“Growing up with a big influence from cooking alongside my Lebanese neighbour with a variety of seasonal, fresh food that we grew in the garden, my love to celebrating humble ingredients and turning them into something spectacular runs deep,” said Walton. “I love and respect the passion and heritage of the brand and their mission to give back. I can’t wait to contribute to IKU’s journey, celebrating and sharing all of the delicious possibilities that creative plant-based cooking has to offer.”

All IKU package is 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable, sticking closely to the values of the modern customer.
