Get ready to embark on a sun-soaked journey through the vibrant soundscape of Jack River‘s highly anticipated latest album, Endless Summer. Set to be released on June 16th, this musical gem encapsulates a delightful fusion of psychedelic waves and captivating melodies that will undoubtedly leave you craving more.

Holly Rankin, the ingenious Australian artist behind Jack River, drew inspiration for this album from a series of transformative experiences. From her fervent involvement in climate change activism during the world’s lockdown in 2019 to her active participation in the 2022 election campaign, Rankin’s passion for a better future reverberates throughout Endless Summer. Written just prior to finding out she was expecting her first child, this sentiment is given even greater significance when applied to the future world of her unborn child (now six months old).

Opening with the infectious 2022 single “Real Life,” Rankin’s third album as Jack River instantly sets a buoyant and captivating tone. With her trademark saccharine vocals, she effortlessly conjures a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the late 90s and early 2000s pop era.

The standout single and title track, “Endless Summer,” co-produced by the talented Matt Corby and co-written with Matt Mason from DMA’S, features the enchanting vocals of Genesis Owusu. Of the track, Rankin says, ““It’s romantic and summer, with dreamy little butterflies flying around.”

Taking a mellower turn, “Lucy Sea Queen” entrances listeners with its slower tempo and stunning lyrics. Rankin delivers a melodramatic and mesmerising ode to young love before seamlessly transitioning into the captivating tracks “Honey” and the catchy 2022 single “Nothing Has Changed.

In the final leg of the album, a personal favourite emerges with “Lie To You.” Rankin’s vocals soar, delivering a heartfelt and achingly beautiful ballad that will undoubtedly have you singing along with raw emotion.

“Paradise” injects a renewed sense of energy, serving up a vibrant and infectious tune that harkens back to the early 2000s pop sound. The ethereal “Holy Men” then slows the pace once more, unveiling a hauntingly beautiful melody intertwined with profound lyrics.

As the album draws to a close, “Stranger’s Dream” delves into the realm of imposter syndrome, unraveling the complex emotions and long-lasting effects of her younger sister’s passing. Rankin masterfully crafts a poignant portrayal of grief, enabling listeners to connect on a deeply personal level, irrespective of their own experiences.

Endless Summer is undeniably a breathtaking album that envelops you in a sun-drenched journey filled with moments of pure bliss and introspection. It comes as no surprise that Jack River is held in such high regard within the Australian music scene, and this album stands as a testament to her undeniable talent. Prepare to hit repeat as this is an album that begs to be savoured time and time again.
