The Xbox Wireless Headset is coming to Australia in March

Modelled on its popular line of Surface Headphones, Microsoft has unveiled the Xbox Wireless Headset.

Given that Microsoft wants to compete with PlayStation’s own branded cans, it’s no surprise that these cans sit in the mid-Premium tier. Indeed, at $149.95 AUD, they may be a bit cheaper than their sleek design might have indicated.

Let’s talk about features.

Though both the Xbox Wire announcement post and Microsoft’s press release claims “best in class audio” and “low latency, lossless audio,” no actual tech specs or hardware information were included so those are currently a little hard to verify. The Xbox Wireless Headphones DO support Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos and DTS Headphone: X for full surround sound which is a good start.

Dual beamforming microphone technology helps auto-mute your mic when you aren’t speaking, focusing on separating speech from background noise.

The headset features fast charging via USB-C. The press release claims a 30-minute charge will get you four hours of battery life. A three-hour charge will get you a full 15 hours of charge — when the headset is not in use. The takeaway is that this guy might chew a bit of juice.

Polyurethane leather pads cover the ear cups and headband. This promotes comfort and even weight distribution, though it does mean they’ll feel slightly warmer than cloth cups. Buttons and dials have been designed to blend in with the Xbox Series X|S form factor.

The Xbox Wireless Headset launches in Australia on March 16 and retails at $149.95 AUD. The headset is compatible with Xbox Series X|S consoles, Xbox One consoles, Windows PC’s, and Android and iOS devices. Pre-orders open today via the Microsoft Store.
