It’s that time of year again when Apple reveals its latest model phones and watches after successfully keeping their details under wraps. As many might have guessed, four new iPhones and two new Apple Watches are heading our way in the next few weeks, as revealed in their latest Wonderlust presentation. Surprisingly, the iPhone 15 itself wasn’t the biggest surprise of the event, with the company now confirming their shift to heavily rumoured USB-C charging, along with some cool new Apple Watch gestures. It’s safe to say, there are a lot of innovations coming to this range of upcoming devices.
The iPhone 15 managed to keep relatively under wraps this year. The release of the 15 will see USB-C charging come to the device for the first time. The Dynamic Island, which was featured exclusively in the previous 14 Pro and Pro Max versions, will now be available across the entire range of the iPhone 15 range. The standard iPhone 15 features the A16, which was also included in the 14 Pro and Pro Max. The phone has a 6.1-inch display with a beefy 48mp camera, and a second-gen ultra wideband chip, with Apple touting an “all-day battery life”.
The iPhone 15 Plus model sports the same internals with a larger 6.7-inch display. The colours on offer are Black, Blue, Pink, Yellow and a softer Green. Storage options include 128GB, 256GB and 512GB in both models and come with a USB-C charging cable in the box.
If you are interested in upgrading to the next level, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are packing a brand new A17 Pro processor with a three-speed USB-C charging chip inside. The mute button on previous phones has been replaced with a dedicated Action button that Apple claims is fully customisable. The bezels are thankfully thinner, and a titanium build makes it both lighter and more durable when not using a case. These models sport the same 48mp main camera now included in the standard iPhone 15, with the Pro Max version adding a 5x telephoto lens.
The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $1,849 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $2,199 for the 256GB model, having scrapped the entry-level 128GB option. There are more limited and exclusive colour options with Natural, Blue, White and Black Titanium with 512GB and 1TB storage options also on offer.
Apple Watch Ultra seems to have been a big hit for the company, with the Apple Watch Ultra 2 sporting the new ultrawideband chip and S9 processor, with both a larger battery and brighter 3,000 nit display, all while still offering 72 hours of battery life in low power mode. The watch face will now use the display’s outer edges to get the most out of the screen.
The Apple Watch Ultra 2 comes with three different band types with nine different colour options in both GPS and Cellular models starting at $1,399. Pre-orders are available now and will begin shipping on September 22.
The Apple Watch 9 has an upgraded S9 processor that introduces gesture control. By double tapping your index finger and thumb, you can answer calls, skip music tracks, play and pause and a bunch of other nifty features if you find yourself with only one hand free. The watch also comes in a new pink colour and stainless steel case options.
The Apple Watch 9 starts at $649. Pre-orders now available, and will begin shipping out on September 22.
If you are in the market for some Air Pods Pro earbuds, the newer models of the earbuds will come with a USB-C charging case. If you still want the wired earbuds, there will also be a USB-C option to plug straight into that new charging port.
It was a surprising showcase, with the tech giant finally caving and allowing USB-C connectivity on its devices. The new phones offer some great colours and upgraded specs, making the upgrade worth it for most users.
