Brisbane Open House unveils 2023 program

Taking place over the weekend of July 15th and 16th, Brisbane Open House has announced a huge program of events, showcasing the city’s rich architectural heritage, cutting-edge design, and innovative spaces.

Launching back in 2010, Brisbane Open House is a free annual event, inviting residents and visitors a rare opportunity to explore some of the city’s hidden architectural, engineering, and historical gems.

Malcolm Middleton, Chair of Brisbane Open House, said:

“Architecture and design are the cultural backbone of Brisbane, shaping our city’s identity and enhancing our quality of life. Brisbane Open House plays a crucial role in celebrating and showcasing the value of these disciplines, inviting everyone to appreciate the beauty and significance of our built environment.

“I am thrilled for the return of Brisbane Open House, an opportunity for the community to explore and appreciate our architectural gems.”

Front and centre of this year’s itinerary is the 2023 Iconic Precinct: Herston – Health & Heritage. Launching with a special event at the UQ Mayne Medical School Building, Herston – Health & Heritage will celebrate the area’s ties to medical history and research, with five venues to explore: UQ Mayne Medical School Building, Lady Lamington’s Nurses’ Home and Towers, the Edith Cavell Building, QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, and Pathology Queensland.

Guided and self-guided tours will also be available at a huge number of venues across the city and beyond, including the Masonic Memorial Centre, Parliament House, The Old Museum, ABC Brisbane Centre, and Wivenhoe Dam. Pre-booking is essential for some locations.

While visitors explore the CBD, they’ll also come across BlueScope, who will be at King George Square, shedding light on the pivotal role steel has played in the construction of iconic structures, including Brisbane’s own Suncorp Stadium. Heritage Lanes by Mirvac will also be open, blending modernity and marketplace ambiance with a heritage façade and historical significance.

Brisbane Open House takes place on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July. You can find the full Brisbane Open House program HERE.
